Part three of the fasteners series for March Mending is here! So far I’ve covered buttons and hook & eyes and now it’s time for press studs (or, if you prefer, snaps or poppers).

Supplies

Step one

Make a cross anchor.

Step two

Hold the press stud firmly between your thumb and index finger centered over the press stud. Take the thread up through one of the holes. Work your way from one end of the hole to the other, ending by taking the needle underneath the press stud.

Step three

Bring the needle up at the start of the next hole. Continue sewing around the other holes in the same way as the first. Knot the thread off at the end.

Step four

Repeat for the other half of the press stud.

That's all there is to it!

It's worth being aware of where you're sewing the press studs. If the opposite side of the fabric will show on the outside try to keep your stitches hidden between the layers.
