Vikings and cats in Melbourne

11/9/2018

Life's been a bit hectic here for the past little while, but I did manage to get down to Melbourne to check out the Vikings: Beyond the Legend exhibition at the Melbourne Museum before it shut. I also won myself a couple of free tickets (thanks Catmantoo!) to the Cat Lovers Show! I went to both of them with my lovely partner (although he had to leave the Cat Lovers Show early - boo hiss boo) which was really nice. I don't mind going to things by myself, but it's always nice to have someone to share the experience with.

I won't write much more, this post is more about seeing some images from the exhibition and the show. I hope you enjoy them!
Viking bone instruments hanging from wire over a black background
Bone instruments.
A viking cat made of amber
Amber shaped to look like a cat.
Reproduction viking clothing hanging on a wire mesh wall
A selection of reproduction clothes. They had buttons to push which lit up certain garments like 'women' or 'men', and a general light to show them all.
Viking sewing needles, needle case, whetstone pendant, fabric, and reproduction shoes with the photographer's reflection on the glass
Sewing bits! There's some ancient fabric remnants, some sewing needles, a whetstone pendant, a needle case, and some reproduction shoes. Right down the bottom is a cheeky reflection of my new spotty gumboots.
Intricately carved Viking jewellery made from gold, silver, glass, and gemstones
How they managed to get such fine detail is beyond me.
Viking runes on wood
I love runes! I'm not sure what this says though.
Viking runes carved into metal and wood
Bits and bobs with runes carved into them.
Description of a Valkyrie that looks like a dalek
This Valkyrie looks suspiciously like a dalek...
Silver Valkyrie pendants, one looks like a dalek
Is it proof that Doctor Who is real? Who knows?
Crystal magnifying glass over the tang of an ancient sword
Even with this magnifying glass (it's a cut piece of crystal) it still amazes me how precise they could be with their detail work.
Tabby cat
A picture of a cat. What a great segue into the next part of this post!
The Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton during the Cat Lovers Show 2018
The glorious Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton. We were about halfway in the queue. You can make out some of the people in front of us on the right hand side of the photo.
Light bulb sign for the Cat Lovers Show 2018
Funky light bulb signage near the entrance.

Robert, aka Catmantoo, Didga (can you spot her?), and Boomer on the Pet Circle Colosseum.
Thanks for stopping by! Did you see either the exhibition or the show? Let me know if you did!

Until next time! xx

P.S, here's another picture of the sign with some people. I couldn't decide which one to show so you get both of them.
People enjoying the Cat Lovers Show 2018
A bonus sign picture! This one gives you more of a feel of the atmosphere there.

What sewing-related items are mentioned in the post, and what unique detail is highlighted about the author's attire?
