These pleated masks are also known as surgical style masks. You’ve probably seen them before, be it in person or on a doctor on the telly or on the silver screen. They might be named surgical style, but that doesn’t mean they’re medical grade masks. They’re still just handmade cloth masks, albeit rather fabulous ones.
The pleats need to be facing down, so sadly these masks aren’t reversible. The nose wire up the top is a helpful reminder which side is the front if you have multiple masks and can’t remember what’s what.
These cloth masks are NOT medical grade. They’re designed to help keep your aerosols from spreading to other people more than from things getting in to you. They may also help remind you not to touch your face.
I am not a medical professional in any way. The advice here comes from information I found during the research period of making these masks. Information about what makes the best mask can change fairly rapidly, so please check the latest recommendations.
I have an upcoming blog post which will have a lot of handy information in one place. I’ll link to it when it’s up.
These masks are made in home with cats. Please take care if you or the person you’re buying for has a cat allergy.
